T.O. WebFest 2017 Submission Guidelines

Important Dates and Submission Fees:

$85 CAD / $64 USD Any extension of the regular submission window will shorten the late submission window accordingly.

Candidates shall be notified of their submissions’ inclusion in the festival on Monday Apr 10, 2017.


ELIGIBLE CONTENT:

All submitted content must satisfy the following requirements:

  • The content must be audio or video media, available online.
  • The content must have been developed for online audiences. Non-exclusive development for online audiences is sufficient.
  • The content must be submitted by a creator/producer aged 18 or older.
  • At the time of submission, the series must already be accessible online or subject to online distribution.
  • If your content is unfinished or pending distribution, you may submit password-protected unreleased content or Works in Progress for consideration. You can add a password to protect your video uploads on your Film Freeway project page. If selected, you must have a screening file available by May 1, 2017.
  • The series must have been active online sometime after January 1, 2014. To be considered ‘active online’, the series must have been publicized during the appropriate time frame through either a live website, social media channels, published press releases, published content, or some other form of online activity associated with the series.
  • The content must include English subtitles to accompany any important dialogue or visual references that are not spoken or written in English.

ELIGIBLE FORMATS:

All submitted content must satisfy the definition of one of the following formats:

Web Series
  • Serialized narrative content of any genre, that fit the eligibility requirements.

INELIGIBLE CONTENT:

The following content formats are not eligible for screening during T.O. WebFest and will be rejected regardless of their adherence to any other requirements:

  • Commercials
  • Corporate videos promoting a product or service
  • Pornography
  • Product reviews
  • Music videos
  • Short films
  • Pilot episodes

Web Series Categories and Awards:

All submitters of web series content must, at the time of submission, select an appropriate genre category to which their content belongs. Their content will then be considered for that category’s corresponding award.  To be considered for additional genre awards, submitters may re-submit the same content to additional genre categories, or submit a new series entirely, and pay an additional fee. The genre categories and the corresponding awards for T.O. WebFest 2017 are as follows:

In addition to the above genre submission categories, submitters of web series content may choose to have their content considered for additional awards relating to industry crafts and community representation. Submissions will be considered for these awards on an opt-in basis, which means that submitters may decide whether they want their content to be considered for each of them. Opting into consideration for the Craft Awards requires payment of $5 additional fee per category (with no limit), while opting into consideration for the Community Awards requires no additional payment. If the submitter does not opt in to any additional categories, they will still be considered for the Genre Award for the genre category submitted to, and possibly for an Achievement Awards if eligible based on the criteria defined below. Best Web Series
  • Open to all participating web series. Finalists will be determined by highest overall scores as determined by the Festival Jury.
Best Canadian Series
  • Open only to web series produced in Canada. Finalists will be determined by highest overall scores as determined by the Festival Jury.
Triple Threat Auteur
  • Open to any one person who occupied at least three of the following nine key roles in connection with a selected web series, as listed in your project credits in Film Freeway: creator, producer, showrunner, writer, director, director of photography, editor, distributor, and lead actor.
Best Podcast
  • As non-juried awards, T.O. Webfest and the IWCC board of directors will select the nominees and winners will be chosen by online vote.
Best Vlog
Best Interactive Experience

Web Series Submission Procedures:

  1. Read these guidelines to ensure eligibility of your project and follow the link to our FilmFreeway page to submit.
  2. Select the genre category that best suits your content.
  3. Opt into any additional Craft Award Categories for which you would like your content to be considered. Each Craft category opted into will cost an additional $5 regardless of the submission window and there is no limit on the number of additional Craft Award Categories for which your content can be considered.
  4. Opt into any Community Award Categories for which you would like your content to be considered. There are no additional fees for opting into these categories and there is no limit on the number of Community Award Categories for which your content can be considered as long as they are relevant to your content.
  5. Submit up to 25 minutes of content for judging. Your submitted content may consist of either
    • one episode with a runtime that does not exceed 25 minutes;
    • multiple episodes with a combined runtime that does not exceed 25 minutes; or
    • a portion (up to 25 minutes) of one episode with an original runtime that exceeds 25 minutes.

Please note that all run times must include titles and end credits (if applicable) and that the festival reserves the right to screen a portion of your submitted content instead of its full length.

If you are submitting multiple episodes or a portion of one episode, please edit your submission content accordingly and upload a video that does not exceed 25 minutes, for consideration.

Podcast, Vlog, and Interactive Experience Submission Procedure:

  1. Read these guidelines to ensure eligibility of your project and follow the link to our FilmFreeway page to submit.
  2. Podcasts, Vlogs, and Interactive Experiences can only submit to their respective submission categories,
    • they are not eligible for Craft or Community Awards.
    • They are only eligible for their respective Achievement Awards.
  3. For Podcasts: In Film Freeway, your Project Type should be identified as “Music/Songwriting” which will accept audio files.
  4. Submit all required information and pay the required fee(s) in accordance with the relevant submission window.

RULES:

All submitters must submit their content to T.O. WebFest through our FilmFreeway Page.
  • All submitters must submit to at least 1 genre category. One can not submit to any Craft or Community categories without also submitting to a genre category.
  • A single submission may be considered for more than one genre category provided that an additional entry with additional submission fee paid for each additional genre category.
  • Multiple projects may be submitted for consideration provided that an additional submission fee is paid for each entry.
  • All submission fees are non-refundable.
  • Submitting does not guarantee your series as an Official Selection of T.O. WebFest 2017.
  • The Festival prefers that the submitter is the creator/producer of the project, however in order to submit content on the behalf of its creator/producer, the contact information of the primary creator/producer must be provided in order to document them as the festival’s main point of contact.
  • The submitter must have obtained legal copyright to publicly screen their submitted content and all intellectual property contained therein including, but not limited to, music, lyrics, written work, photos, video content, artwork, and media excerpts.
  • The creator/producer of each Official Selection will be offered 2 complimentary passes to T.O. WebFest 2017.

JURY INFORMATION:

T.O WebFest and the IWCC maintain that the collective members of the Festival Jury reflect an international selection of esteemed industry professionals of diverse cultural backgrounds.

  • T.O. WebFest and the IWCC reserve the right to appoint all members of the Festival Jury.
  • The Festival Jury determines all Official Selections.
  • The Festival Jury selects the nominees and winners in each category, based on the submitter’s selection of Genres, Craft & Community categories for consideration.
  • If the Festival Jury or T.O. WebFest determines that an incorrect category may have been chosen for a submission, the submitter will be contacted regarding reclassification.
  • T.O. WebFest and the IWCC selects nominees and winners in each Achievement Award Category based on scoring information provided by the Festival Jury.
  • All decisions regarding official selections and award nominees and winners are non-disputable.
  • The identities of the Festival Jury members will be posted on the T.O. WebFest website after submissions close with the exception of any that choose to remain anonymous.
  • Staff members of T.O. Webfest, or members of the Board of Directors of the IWCC are not eligible to receive any awards or participate in the Festival Jury.
  • General Members of the IWCC organization may be considered as potential jurors.
  • Jurors can not be involved in any projects submitted to T.O. WebFest for consideration.

TERMS & CONDITIONS:

  • T.O. WebFest reserves the right to amend these Guidelines at any time.
  • Failure to meet the eligibility requirements will lead to disqualification.
  • Disqualification will not entitle a submitter to a refund of the submission fee.
  • By submitting your content, you represent that you have acquired all legal rights to publicly screen all content within your submission.
  • T.O. WebFest reserves the right to determine screening conditions for all Official Selections.
  • T.O. WebFest reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to add content advisory disclaimers to any content screened, if deemed necessary, for any reason.
  • If a submitter’s content is selected, a Notice of Official Selection shall be emailed to the to the email address provided by the submitter in their Film Freeway profile on the notification date.
  • Announcements identifying the Official Selections will be posted online on the T.O. WebFest website and social media channels on the notification date.
  • If you have any questions about your eligibility, contact us and we will assess your submission on a case-by-case basis.
  • T.O. WebFest participants agree to not hold T.O. WebFest or the IWCC, its employees, directors and representatives responsible for any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with the event or resulting from acceptance, possession or use of any prize.
  • All provincial & federal laws apply.
